We have complete or nearly complete sets of HKSKH publications in Chinese and English, dating from 1922. The Archives has more than 6,000 digitized photographs, and a large number of original photographs from the late 19th century onwards. We have a limited number of historical artifacts and souvenirs presented to our bishops. The Archives maintains a small working library of books, which at present has 301 books, with special attention to writings by HKSKH authors.

We have a complete photocopied set of the The Chinese Churchman (in Chinese), the official publication of the Chung Hua Sheng Kung Hui, from 1908-1951, as well as other documentary CHSKH materials. The Archives has acquired copies of other materials from the Public Records Office in Hong Kong, the Shanghai Municipal Archives, the Lambeth Palace Library, the Archives of the Anglican Church in Canada, and the Archives of the Episcopal Church in the USA. We have plans to visit the Church Missionary Society Archives in Birmingham to acquire materials related to CMS work in Hong Kong. The University Archives and Special Collections Section at Saint Francis University (SFU) was established in 2024 with the endorsement of the SFU Senior Management. It is responsible for the collection, appraisal, and preservation of archival records which are drawn from both the University and external sources, records which document the University’s history and contributions and have enduring value. Its primary mission is to provide strong support for the University’s teaching, learning, research, and administrative activities.

The SFU Library also seeks to promote the popularization of archives in Hong Kong and to preserve the collective memory of this territory. In pursuit of this goal, it works closely with the Hong Kong Archives Society (HKAS), such as co-hosting the International Archives Week (IAW) in June 2025, which was the first time such an event was held at a university in Hong Kong.

The archival collections are in continuous development and are currently composed of two sections:

University Archives

This is a repository of archival records which were transferred from the core committees, schools, departments, offices and affiliated units at SFU and which document the history and functions of the University. Major publications, internal papers, minutes, photographic materials and audiovisual items are included.

Special Collections

These archival materials are closely related to the research projects and teaching activities at SFU, featuring such themes as community development, social services, performance arts, movie studies and Catholic faith.
