Archives Assistant (at the rank of Clerk II) in the University Archives (Ref: 201800726) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability)

Applicants should have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent. They should also have an excellent command in both written and spoken English and Chinese; good IT skills with the ability to use MS Office packages; be customer-service oriented and attentive to details, able to multitask and prioritize; able to perform manual-handling tasks such as maneuvering book carts and lifting boxes of records; and to compose simple documents such as letters, forms or spreadsheets. They must be able to work well in a team environment and independently under the broad direction of the management. Preference will be given to those with relevant experience.

The appointee will be responsible for records management tasks such as creating new files, preparing files lists; sorting and classifying documents; retrieving files for users, performing records inventory, transferring records to offsite storage, compiling statistics and reports; archival tasks including processing of archival materials, mainly paper documents, photographs, tapes, slides and artifacts of various types, shelving and re-shelving materials as needed, entering finding aids into the computer, occasionally preservation work such as surface cleaning of documents and images, assisting with reference and research questions; scanning and photocopying; and other duties as assigned. The appointee will be assigned to work in the office of the University Archives, either in the main campus or in the office of Aberdeen, or both. He/She will work from Monday to Friday, although schedule may be adjusted and include possible weekends and evening hours as needed.
