The Hong Kong Archives Society plans to organise a series of seminars for its members and the general public who are interested in knowing more about different aspects of archival management and hear from experienced professionals in the field.

 

Our goals are to promote:
  • Cultural knowledge keeping
  • Appropriate organization of knowledge records
  • Effective access to knowledge records
  • Dissemination and preservation of intangible heritage


The first three seminars were held between April and September. The 4th seminar, a workshop on digitisation, will be presented in December.

 


 

Seminar Series #4 
Implementing a digitalisation of historical collections: experience to share

Objective:

This workshop will discuss the different aspects of a digitisation project from a project planning perspective, so that participants will know what to consider when planning for digitisation.

Welcome all who are interested in knowing more about digitization of library and archival materials handling.

 

Presenter: 

WONG Wan Yu, Special Collections and Archives Librarian, Hong Kong Baptist University Library

Ms Wong is a librarian whose career has mostly been with the National Library of Australia (NLA), working in different teams over 24 years. The last position she held there was managing the NLA’s digitisation program which covers various materials including books, newspapers (on microfilm and in hardcopy), photographs, maps and personal papers.

 

Course details

Dates and times: 9th & 16th December, 10.00 am – 12.00 noon, two Saturdays

Delivered online via Zoom

Language: Cantonese with presentation slides in English

Fee: 

HK$ 200  for HKAS members; 
HK$ 250 for non-members (non-members can opt to join the Society when registering. See membership benefits here).
Certificates of attendance can be issued, upon request after learner attended the two sessions

Fees cover:
  1. attendance at the seminars via Zoom
  2. copies of the presentation
  3. recordings of the sessions after the seminar

 

  • Deadline for registration: 5 pm on 27 November, Monday

Please note:
  • Fees are non-refundable unless the Society cancels the seminar due to
    1) insufficient numbers of participants; or
    2) unavailability of presenter due to unforeseen circumstances beyond the Society’s control
     
  • Registration can be transferred to members of the same institution with prior notice to the Society (pd@archives.org.hk
