M+ is a museum dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Within Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District we are building one of the largest museums of modern and contemporary visual culture in the world, with a bold ambition to establish ourselves as one of the world’s leading cultural institutions. Our aim is to create a new kind of museum that reflects our unique time and place, a museum built upon Hong Kong’s historic balance of the local and the international to define a distinctive and innovative museum for Asia’s twenty-first century.
The M+ Pavilion, which opened in September 2016, serves as the primary site for M+ exhibitions in the run-up to the completion of the M+ building. After M+ opens it will become a new space for artists, designers and organisations to stage independent small-scale exhibitions and events in the Art Park.
Working as part of the Archives team, you will be the key person involved in implementing records management, preserving the institutional memory of M+, and telling the story of the development of the museum.
You will be responsible for:
working with other teams in M+ and across WKCDA to examine current recordkeeping practices, and establishing and implementing records management policy and procedures for paper and digital records created by M+;
preparing appraisal of paper and digital records created by M+ that are to be maintained as part of the M+ institutional archive;
preserving and cataloguing of the M+ institutional archive according to the international archival standards;
ongoing management of the M+’s institutional archive, including managing access to the archive by museum staff and the public;
working with other teams in M+ to actively promote the use of the institutional archive in telling the story of M+, through digital / print platforms and museum exhibitions; and
undertaking other duties, as part of the M+ Archives team, relating to the management of archives acquired as part of the M+ Collection.
possess a postgraduate qualification in archives management, records management or equivalent;
have at least 5 years of relevant experience in an archival repository with a minimum of 3 years of experience in working as an archivist or records manager, preferably in a medium to large organisation, with a track record of implementing records management and archive strategies;
have excellent computer skills and familiarity with archival and collection management software database systems, document management systems or digital asset management systems;
be experienced in the management and preservation of digital-born records; and
have excellent oral and written communication skills and Chinese.
