The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Library is inviting applications for the following position: 

Archives Officer (Job ID: 3774)

The Library is seeking an experienced individual to fill a project position whose main responsibility is to assist the Digital Scholarship & Archives Manager in the management of the University Archives & Special Collections unit.

Reporting to the Digital Scholarship & Archives Manager, the appointee’s duties include working with stakeholders proactively in the acquisition, appraisal, organization and preservation of the University’s records of enduring value, and providing access to these materials; managing and enhancing special collections; conducting digitization projects for maps, rare books and photographs; providing instructions, orientations, and other education activities; and participating in outreach programs, exhibition planning and special projects.

The position will also involve working on the history of Western maps of China project. The appointee will assist the Digital Scholarship & Archives Manager in collecting information on the maps; obtaining map images and clearing copyright; and assisting in the translation of the English text into Chinese.

Applicants should have a certificate in archives and records management or equivalent, in addition to a bachelor’s degree and 3 years of working experience; demonstrate familiarity with archival methods, procedures, and material formats; be proficient in MS Office applications, written and spoken English and Chinese; have strong interpersonal and communication skills; and be able to work effectively in a team environment. Having experience with archival management system, digital repository, and/or preservation management software will be advantageous. Depending on the qualifications and experience, the appointee will be considered for appointment at the rank of Executive Officer II or Project Assistant. (Duration: 3 years)

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
